Hi Readers! I know it's been a minute please forgive me. It's been a busy past few weeks for me but I am glad to be back writing again. First off, I want to wish you all a happy new year 2022! I am excited for this new year and I am sure you all reading this are too. With every new year comes new goals that you set and want to achieve. This year I want pose a different way for you to set your goals. Instead of the generic goals like I want to lose weight, make more money, get a 4.0 GPA, etc. I challenge you to chase habits as goals rather than results of goals.
Chasing habits will allow you achieve those bigger goals in smaller chunks and allow you to track your progress much better. Additionally it will help you to be able to not be as intimidated with your goals. Often times people quit their new year resolution because they lack consistency and there's no buildup. When you make small changes in your life over time, bigger changes will come. It's easy to be motivated by future results early on but it's the habits that will keep you disciplined. When you chase habits, you become more disciplined and focused. Motivation will help you get started but discipline will keep you on the journey to where you want to be.
Take stock of how this past year went. What went well, what didn't go well, and what you want to do different. Reflecting on the year can allow you to have a grasp on where you are and where you want to go in the future. Next, I want to let you know that setbacks and failure will come. When they do come, get back on track as soon as possible. Often times, people miss one day and will then skip another because they missed one. Be kind to yourself through this journey, no need to beat yourself up. Chase habits and you will excel this year!
Here are some examples of chasing habits vs goals:
Want a 4.0 GPA? Instead set a goal of consistently studying for 1 hour out of the day everyday.
Want to lose weight? Set a goal of eating healthy food at least 4-5 days out of the week and drinking more water.
Want to be a better athlete? Set a goal of getting more sleep each night, practice having a positive attitude during workouts.
Want to make more money? Set goals like budgeting your money and gaining the skills and knowledge to generate more income.
Want to have a better spiritual life? Set goals like praying/meditating once a day each day
Thank you so much for taking time to read this, I hope you have a wonderful new year. Remember chase habits and not results because when you don't see the results you'll get discouraged. Habits is where the magic happens. Until next Time,
E.Ibadin
Thank you for this! I will make a commitment to create better habits and not just better goals. Even if I don’t accomplish those goals, all I can do is my best.
