Hello readers, welcome to another training session. I am so glad that you are taking time out of your busy day to read this. With it being the last month of the year I found it appropriate to talk about failure. Why failure, you might be thinking. I chose to talk about failure because around this time of year, most people take time to reflect on everything that happened this year and how they either achieved their goals or came up short. On the other end, some people have already given up on this year and have begun setting new goals for 2022. Whether one of these is you, I got some news for you, I don't think you're really afraid to fail at attempting your goals. I think most people are afraid of being seen as failures rather than actually failing at attempting something. Some are so afraid of failure that they'd rather not try. Hate to brake to you but failure is inevitable, we are all going to fail at something.

Here are some ways that you allow yourself to get over the fear of failure.

  1. Recognize that you're more than likely afraid of people seeing you fail. There's a huge difference between failing and people seeing you fail. When people see you fail, it can damage your ego a lot. When you fail by yourself, it's easy to get right back up and move on to the next thing. The liberating thing is that everyone fails at something, you just might not see it. Learn to put that pride/ego aside and try things. Don't afraid to be seen as a beginner especially when everyone starts off as a rookie.

  2. You don't have that much control over whether you succeed or fail Learn to focus on the process and detach yourself from the results/outcome. What I mean by this is focus on the steps needed to get to where you want to go. Do your absolute best and let the results take care of themselves. Sometimes, success happens based off of knowing the right people, being at the right place, or even randomly having something go viral. Remember, people's content will blow up without them expecting it blow up.

  3. Love the process more than the results. If you're able to do this, I promise you that you won't even care about failing because you're having fun in the process. Besides, the journey is way more important than the destination itself. The destination is constantly moving and when you achieve one goal, you'll be happy for a moment but then you'll be wanting to chase something else. So learn to love the journey because that where the growth happens.

  4. Shift your perspective around failure Growing up, I used to look at failure as a near life/death situation. That if I failed then I'm unworthy of nice things, that I can't have any fun, and that my life is over. Believe me when I say this, you will not die if you fail. When failure comes, dust yourself off and try again. Failure is simply feedback on what you need to improve on. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. There's no failure that you can't bounce back from. YOU WILL NOT DIE if you fail!

  5. You can do ALL the RIGHT things and still fail. This might be a hard pill to swallow but just because you put in work does not mean you'll automatically end up successful. It's important that you also define what success is to yourself because if you define it based off of other people's standards, you will look at yourself as a failure. So it's okay to fail even if you did everything right. It's just on to the next venture and I'm sure you'll then succeed at something at some point in time.

  6. Nobody Cares Nobody cares if you fail, we are all too busy focusing on making sure we don't ourselves. Yes you might have some naysayers here and there wishing you fail but trust me, nobody thinks about you more than you. Think about all the times you think about other people's failures. It's probably not a lot and knowing that makes you realize that people aren't thinking about you as much as you think.

  7. True failure is not trying If you've given something your all and came up short, there is nothing to be ashamed of. You can look and say "at least I tried" rather than "I wish I tried". Regret is a painful thing and you don't want to have any of it. There is plenty of people who take no action, don't be one of those people. Remember every great person in society that we admire has failed at something. Now imagine if they never tried, we wouldn't experience some of the beautiful things that we see today.

That's it for today's session, thank you so much for reading this. I hope this encourages you to just go after whatever it is that you want. With the new year approaching, take stock of what you want to do and take action. Remember the people who do the most talking, aren't doing anything so stay locked in on your goals and block the noise out.

Until Next Time,

E. Ibadin
