Hey readers, welcome to another training session. Today we are going to talk about what it means to fully present in the moment. Learning how to do this isn't not only important as an athlete but as a person in general. Often times, our minds are running at 100 mph all over the place except where it ought to be. Where your mind ought to be is where your feet currently are. I know many people(myself included) who would find themselves thinking about something else during those school hours. Looking back, I am now realizing how dangerous it can be sometimes because now a lot of us are adults and are still doing the same thing. Body is at work but your mind is somewhere else entirely. With anxiety on the rise, it is much more important now more than ever to make sure that your mind and body are in the same place as much as possible.

There was a quote that someone told me around February of 2020 that stuck with me. It was "Be Where Your Feet Are", and what it means is exactly that. Be present where ever your feet are. I firmly believe this is how people are able to balance many tasks. They are able to focus on whats right in front of them. Knowing how to do this can drastically improve your performance in any area of your life because it is receiving your undivided attention.

In the Documentary "The Last Dance" Michael Jordan talked about being present in one of the parts of the 10 part series. He then went on to say, he tries to not stress about a game he hasn't played and a shot he hasn't taken. I think that mindset alone is extremely powerful because let's face it, we as people tend to worry about the future so much. Often times, we think about a future that doesn't even happen. That was probably one of the few good things that happened during the early stages of the pandemic, it forced everyone to slow down and just be present in this moment because there was no telling what the future was going to hold. So take some time to relax, take a breath, and be where your feet are.

Here are some ways you can practice being where your feet are.

  1. Recognize the fact that each day has enough trouble of its own. Take things one day at a time and you'll soon find out that life becomes more simple that way.

  2. Pay close attention to your senses, take time to taste the food you're eating. Take deep breaths throughout the day. Feel the objects that you're touching, pay close attention to whatever you're hearing. Listen with intent and observe your surroundings keenly.

  3. Do an activity you really enjoy. One that requires focus so you can't think about other things.

  4. Feel all your feelings- Allow yourself to feel whatever it is that you might be feeling at the moment.

  5. Count your blessings- This will allow you to observe yourself and look at the good that's in your life.

Well we've reached another end of a training session and I hope that you enjoyed it. Always come back to these posts for reference whenever you need them. Try practicing these tips as well so you can be mentally or physically fit.

Until Next Time,
